On Sunday, October 29, around 7 p.m., a collision occurred between two trains on the Vizianagaram-Visakhapatnam line at Kantakapalli. The trains involved were the 08532 Visakhapatnam-Palasa passenger and the 08504 Visakhapatnam-Rayagada passenger. At least thirteen individuals lost their lives, and over 50 others sustained injuries when a passenger train, overshooting a signal, collided with another train from behind on the Howrah-Chennai line in Andhra Pradesh.
It has been informed that a special passenger train traveling from Visakhapatnam to Palasa came to a halt on the tracks between Alamanda and Kantakapalle near Kothsavatsala due to the absence of a signal. It was at this point that the Vizag-Raigad passenger train collided with it, resulting in the derailment of three coaches.
The injured persons have been admitted to Tirumala hospital, NRI hospital in Vizianagaram (Town) and a few others have been admitted MIMS hospital in Nellimarla, Vizianagaram. One NDRF and two SDRF teams reached the location to carry out the rescue and relief operation. Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw monitored the situation from war room in Delhi.

The Union Railways Minister, Ashwini Vaishnaw, stated that all injured individuals have been transferred to various hospitals for medical care and also declared a compensation of ₹ 10 lakh for the families of the deceased.
All injured shifted to hospitals.
