Victory in the FIDE World Junior Rapid Chess Championship goes to Raunak Sadhwani from Nagpur

Grandmaster Raunak Sadhwani claimed the title of FIDE World Junior Rapid Chess Championship in Sardinia, Italy, on Thursday, Oct 12, 2023. He secured a total of 8.5 points over 11 rounds, ultimately emerging as the champion, ahead of Russia’s Arseniy Nesterov, who scored 8 points. In the competitive open section, the 17-year-old prodigy from Nagpur, India, showcased his exceptional skill and unwavering determination, culminating in a remarkable triumph. Despite a shaky start, Raunak gradually gained momentum, ultimately entering the final round in a shared top position with three other players.

Raunak Sadhwani received heartfelt congratulations on his remarkable triumph at the FIDE World Junior Rapid Chess Championship 2023 from Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.

All India Chess Federation has also congratulated Raunak Sadhwani on the victory. In an official post AICF said “GM Raunak Sadhwani clinched the FIDE World Junior Rapid Chess Championship at Sardinia – Italy, scoring 8.5 points from11 rounds.
